Once you own several towns you get sooo much money and you never spent money because your armor is fully upgraded and you rarely have to buy troops (I replenish from enemy prisoners that I hire for free). I also find no use for my unlimited money. It also takes too long and most don't even show up. However, if I start a campaign then my lords won't be able to defend the kingdom while we are expanding our kingdom somewhere else I suppose. But being a Marshal gives me a bit more power so I might appoint myself as the one. I don't need to be a marshal as I am a Queen. I have roughly 2000+ renown now and decent RTR (I believe 30-40) and 180 men with ~90 morale by raiding kingdoms while the enterprises + leadership supported my troop wages. Bandits gave me near to no xp nor renown and loot is always crap in this game (beat an army of 200 horsemen, I get 3 horses that sell for ~40 each w/o trading skill but buying them back can cost 2k - 20k). I simply started taking over castles at some point. I'm a female character btw so I have no wife and I did not get a husband because I want to be 'boss' :P. In one of my recent games for Prophecy of Pendor mod, I had enough faction lords with their own troops that ended up being about 2000+ troops that could join whenever I needed them to get together. It may not be everyone but usually you can get several hundred troops under your command. ![]() After that, some of the lords who usually come to help you will come (this implies that you don't always get all the lords responding to your call). Once you are marshal, you can talk to any of your lords, or even your companions in your party, and let them know that you want to start a new campaign. You can do this through one of the NPCs at your main castle (later, it will most likely be your wife). You can get several to follow you this way.Īnother way is that you must declare yourself marshal of your kingdom. If they aren't doing something they think is more important, they will usually follow you. To make your men follow you, when you talk to them, you can tell them "I wish to ask you something" and then "Will you follow me". I don't mind referencing the factions by color, partly because my tactics will usually be general tactics. I think I have sometimes seen where the AI lord uses some of his troops to garrison the castle, so that means that his army will be a little smaller for a while, whereas you would easily overwhelm the skeleton garrison that has been left behind. Let the enemy take the castle and then when they all leave, go right back and take it again. As you do this more and more, you are whittling down their siege group until it is at least manageable for a frontal attack from you, or they even decide to go away if you managed to take out enough enemy troops.Īnd finally, one more way you can handle it is to ahead and empty out your garrison, saving prrecious troops. ![]() Try to take them away from the main group and then engage. I think I had about 150 of those units in my warband, with my units being a good units with good levels, and 50 were from garrison.Īnother way is that there are a few lords that will try to chase you when you come near their siege encampment, especially if you have a smaller army than they do. I think one of my best (or hardest) ratios was about 200 of my defenders against a 1000-person attacking force. This way, if you have at least some mid to high-tier units, and many archers, you have a chance to repel a pretty big force. The AI considers the quantity of the garrison also, not just the quality, when deciding to attack it or not.Īnother good way that I sometimes have to do, especially when the enemy group is much larger, is to wait until they are attacking the castle, then join in the battle. Here is a cheesy way to defend your castle: fill it up with peasants or low-level troops.
